Porto, a love story

 

Porto is the capital of the North of Portugal, close to the Douro Valley and the beautiful area of Minho and it received from the World Travel Awards the winner of World´s Leading City Destination 2022. The popularity of Porto is due to its history, its architecture, its culture, its gastronomy, and its wide range of high-quality choices for tourism. The city has many emblematic and historic buildings such as the Clerigos Tower, the world-famous Lello bookshop, São Bento railway station, the São João National Theatre, the award-winning Casa da Musica, and the Serralves Modern Art Museum and gardens.

An ambiance of natural charm is created by the Ribeira riverside esplanades, the magnificent Dom Luis cast iron bridge, the old electric trams, and the famous Douro river gives a magical aspect to the city.

Porto is by the sea and in the locality are many beautiful Blue Flag beaches. The climate is pleasant all year with lots of sunshine.

The historic connections by boat to the beautiful valley villages of the Douro river, Régua, Pinhão, Vila Nova de Foz Côa, passing by the many noble estates and vineyards on the hills above the river that produce the fine wines and viniculture which have earned this area the title of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the city and surrounding countryside there are many restaurants and venues with wonderful ambiance and delicious food, based on fresh local traditional ingredients and of course excellent wines.

After all, this is the place that gave its name to one of the most famous wines in the world – Port wine.
